Hi All:
The Boston Globe stated that the known potential candidates in the special election in my state senate district are as follows:
Representative John Rogers of Norwood (D)
Representative Paul McMurtry of Dedham (D) and
Representative Michael Rush of West Roxbury (D)
Representative Rogers was the person pushing Super D.O.M.A in Massachusetts, Representative Rush is vehemently anti-choice regarding abortion rights and Representative McMurtry initially ran as an independent against the Democratic nominee in his district when he was first elected. Knowing all this, I have created a poll.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sincerely,
Wayne J. Wilson, Jr.
Please share widely!

I don’t know enough about him, but the other two are radioactive in my world…

…McMurty’s actual voting record is the more important indicator.

a special election means candidates don’t have to give up their current seats to run. I’d love to see some of these Reps be former reps.
<
p>Don’t forget city officials. I suspect there are some Boston elected eying this race as well.

Am I the only person who thinks this entire issue with Governor Patrick giving the Senator a $175,000 job when state employees are being laid off, the position has not been filled in many years, and the expense of running a special election, is an absolute outrage? It only adds to the ridiculousness indicated in the Globe today about DiMasi and Deleo giving raises and perks. Talk about being out of touch!

At work! Are you proud of them yet.

if he ran. I think he’d have a great shot at it, considering his strong base among the parkway vote and a divided conservative opposition.
<
p>Tobin’s always been strong on progressive issues as far as I know, at at the very least he’d be much better than any of these three clowns.
sethjp says
Tobin has been a great City Councilor for Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury and would make a great State Senator for the district. And, yes, his progressive credentials are strong.
<
p>What’s more, he’s proven himself to be very accessable and more than willing to help his constituents move a good idea forward. His role in the establishment of a Poet Laureate for the City of Boston and his sponsorship of the Boston Wi-Fi Summit are two good examples of the way that Tobin supports his constituents’ efforts to make the city a better place.
<
p>Here’s hoping that he throws his hat into the ring.

John has been a very good councillor, and I think having both JP and West Roxbury in his district has been good for him in terms of representing different constituencies. Timing isn’t perfect for him, but it will be interesting to see what he decides.
billxi says
Not that I endorse the position.

Let’s encourage the strongest possible progressive candidate to replace Senator Walsh:
<
p>Former Rep. Maryanne Lewis (D-Dedham)
Liberal voting record as House members, ties to city side of district.
<
p>Councilor John Tobin (D-West Roxbury)
Solid progressive, beat Rush before.
<
p>Councilor Steve Murphy (D- Hyde Park)
More recently a moderate, has marched in last few Pride parades.
<
p>And others to think about?

Hi All:
<
p> I am proud to say that I am the only one of the people mentioned who has run district wide to represent the Democrats of this district recently. None of the males listed bothered to run for the vacant Democratic State Committee Man seat in the state senate district last year, probably because it was a non – paying position.
<
p> I seriously doubt that either Councillors Tobin or Murphy would bother with running for a job that essentially pays the same as the one they have. I have not heard a thing from former Representative Lewis for a long time, since Bob Loughlin won the seat she used to hold. But I say the more the merrier, people might be sick of voting for career politicians who run for office to get a raise, not for the purpose of forwarding issues that they believe need to be addressed.
<
p> Please see my other blog : Replacement for Marian Walsh 2 for details regarding those issues and my history. Thank you.

p>Respectfully Submitted,
Sincerely,
