Oh isn’t this swell. This thieving bastard gets a walk. Why? Probably this is a quid pro quo for Rangel, Daschle, Sebellius, Murtha and every other tax scofflaw and criminal that deserves to be prosecuted. Holder has to tone down the Office of Public Integrity now that democrats are in office. We can’t have any run away prosecutors or US attorneys going after the White House and its minions. America is fast becoming Massachusetts. Water the entire system down so that everyone has a license to steal with impunity. Equal opportunity criminality. Honest and trustworthy need not apply. USA is not about to go down the crapper? Right.
I would just as soon Stevens died in prison where he deservedly belongs.

on what went on at Bush’s DOJ office and who screwed the pooch here. Republican idiocy, the gift that keeps on giving.

It is indeed unusual to see the DoJ drop the prosecution–after getting a conviction no less– of a politician from the party not in control of the White House. And admitting error, no less!

p>We haven’t seen something like this in about eight years.

Apparently they really did, by withholding evidence from the defense. This says nothing in defense of Stevens, who did misuse his position.
<
p>I hope that some good can come of this. There are a number of cases involving Democrats, notably those of Don Siegelman and Paul Minor, in which the irregularities were overwhelmingly worse than those in the Stevens case. All public evidence indicates that Siegelman and Minor were victims of blatent political prosecution.
<
p>Don Siegelman, former governor of Alabama, was convicted for appointing to a commission a person who had contributed to a state issue campaign that Siegelman also supported. If this standard were applied uniformly, every sitting governor would be sent to jail. In fact, Siegelman’s predecessor Republican governor had appointed the same person to the same position. Perhaps the predecessor should also be put on trial? Oh wait, he’s a Republican…
