Shall we assume that it’s because so many people are getting the short end of the economic stick, or are we going to argue that the nanny state is coddling too many lazy slackers?

    • I don’t think the people in Depression soup lines were celebrating having gotten something for nothing. I don’t think it about today’s food stamp recipients, either. I just assumed some of our other-minded posters would show up with that view, and wanted to welcome them.

  2. I just checked how much food stamps I’d get if I lost my job… $798/month… sweet. I don’t think I spend that now ($26/day).

I wonder if they made any “stupid mistakes” when they were younger beating up people (maybe a little stab here, beat there…) and then they will have to commit crimes to “feed their kids” and off to prison they go for a long time thereby ruining the chance of two “productive members of society”. I understand hunger and spend a fair amount of time/money working with Church’s and the local food pantry for hungry people… so stick that in your pipe and smoke it. I have also posted many times on this site where people can get low cost affordable meals for themslevs and their kids (but not in WUburn). If there is justice in this world then I am receiving it now.. as a reward.

        p>I have a friend who works for the state. He tells me all sorts of stories but he failed to mention the $4/day fairy tale you conjured up. I’ll check with him again and get back to you. But he does lots of stories about illegals showing up at 4:45PM Friday afternoon with nothing and he can’t go home till the get food stamps and a place to live (hotels…). Only in Massachusetts!

          p>Gotta love it.  Medicaid, Welfare and Food stamps became Masshealth, WIC and SNAP so that rather than cause people to suffer the stigma of being on welfare, it makes it sound healthy, fun for the whole family.  With the sounds of a breakfast cereal commercial.
