GLOUCESTER – Patrick J. Abegg, 44, of 4 Banjo Way, passed on suddenly on Saturday, April 25, 2009 in the Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Jane B. (Muise) Abegg and proud father of Tyler.

Patrick was a graduate of the Lexington High School class of 1982 and the Washington University in St. Louis. He was employed for 16 years as a data analyst for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Although he was born in Nebraska and raised in Lexington, Gloucester was his home.
In addition to his wife, son and father, he is survived by his stepmother, Beverly Abegg, his brother, Michael Abegg, a sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Michael Brose and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held on Thursday in the St. John’s Episcopal Church, 48 Middle St., Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester from 4 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. I met Patrick a couple of times over the course of my Democratic involvement, and since we were both BMG old-timers. He had a Cape Ann blog that he kept for a few months in 2005.

p>He will be missed. My condolences to his family. Forty-Four is way too young…
I don’t recall if I ever met Patrick in person, but I remember his blog and his contributions here. He was a stalwart active Democrat and Gloucester should be proud of what he accomplished.
<
p>My best wishes to the family, especially his wife and son. As sco said, 44 is far, far too young.
I had met Patrick Abegg and found him a warm and accomplished human being. 44 IS far too young. Indeed.
Patrick was a fellow member of the First Essex, Middlesex Coalition (1EM). He will be missed.

…he was such a dedicated Democrat that when I heard he was running for State Committee, I had to pause because, given his regular attendance at the meetings and his knowledge of the rules and inner workings…I just assumed he was a long time committee member.
<
p>I only got to briefly experience someone who clearly was passionate about life, generous with his time to help others and loved the adventure we call politics. Patrick will rest in peace. I want to tell his family that there are many of us around the state and elsewhere that were touched by his spirit and our thoughts and prayers are with you during this terrible time.
I don’t think I like that math. Patrick was a thoughtful Democrat who saw how the system operated and did his damnedest to make it work better.
This is very, very sad. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
It’s the early 80’s…a State Senator is running for Lt. Governor and doing so out of a storefront in the middle of Winchester Center (back when you could do such things and politics was still grassroots fun)…there was a geeky high school kid from Lexington who would ride his bike to get there almost every day to volunteer on the campaign. He became a real trooper…smart, eager, sweet kid…
<
p>He grew up to be a smart, eager, sweet and kind man who I met again after all these years when he was running for State Committee several months ago…we desperately need more Pat Abeggs…people who are in it for the good it can do not for personal gain….his sudden death diminishes us all.
I, too am sorry to read/hear of his passing, especially at such a young age. My thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends during these difficult times.
but I do remember seeing some of his comments here. My heart goes out to his family and friends…
