Hi All:
After seeing the grandiose commercial for www.massvacation.com several times, I decided to check it out.
It appears that they are lying about freshwater fishing in Massachusetts. I quote from their website, “For freshwater fishing, you’ll enjoy more than 500 lakes, ponds, rivers and streams stocked annually with trout, bass, herring, salmon and many other varieties. Venues range from the ice-cold streams of the Berkshire Hills to the mighty Connecticut and Merrimack Rivers.” As an avid fisherman, and after having my fishing license for every year since 1996, I know that the Commonwealth stocks neither bass or herring in Massachusetts. Shame on the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism.
Sincerely,
Wayne Wilson

Surely you knew that?

Hi All:
<
p> Jamaica Pond has bass, but those bass are not native and were not stocked within the past fifty years. To my understanding, bass were imported in wooden casks from New York sometime in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. I was not aware of the recent stocking of shad fry, nothing was denoted on the Mass Wildlife website. But still stocking of shad fry does not mean that fishermen and women will be able to catch any shad anytime soon.
<
p> So my previous statement is partially correct, and the Massachusetts Office and Tourism should correct the website, http://www.massvacation.com and issue a retraction and apology for lying.
<
p>Sincerely,
Wayne Wilson

p>P.S. Jamaica Pond has been a curse on me, so therefore I will stick with fishing at either of my two go to ponds, Houghton’s Pond in Milton and Lake Cochituate in Framingham. Happy Fishing!
