Want to know why Quinn Bill funding is one line item that receives so much attention from legislators?
It’s because Senate offices today have received hundreds, if not thousands of phone calls from police officers across the Commonwealth demanding restoration of funding for the Quinn Bill.
So when the Quinn Bill gets $30 million in additional funding next week and your favorite human services program gets nothing, you now know why.
You cannot just sit back and assume your legislator will do the right thing, whatever that may be. You cannot assume that because you have justice and compassion on your side, that you will win.
Advocacy requires activity. It’s not enough to post on BMG, or trade Emails with friends. You need to call, you need to Email, and you need to lobby.

Here’s the problem: it’s hard to advocate for everything but [Quinn Bill]*, especially when Quinn Bill can’t be framed as a bad thing — just a not as good thing.

p>I don’t know how to work around that problem exactly.

…including those police officers who would benefit with restoration of the Quinn bill funding. Sorry – ask for a budget a couple of years from now, once the economy has turned around, just like everyone else.
