The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange – MARE for short – is a nonprofit that works to try and find adoptive parents for kids who have been freed for adoption. “Freed for adoption” means that their parent’s rights were terminated, but there is no adoptive parent waiting in the wings.
Now, as to whether all of those terminations of parental rights were necessary or moral – that is another discussion. Fact is, the parent’s rights were terminated, the kid was made into a legal orphan, and MARE is the organization that stepped up to try and match these kids with parents.
The parents involved are truly special; often the adoptive parent needs to be willing to open their home, their life, and their heart not just to a child, such as a 12 year old, but to a new extended family. Many of these kids are more willing to be adopted and more successful in new homes if their heritage and roots are accepted and maintained, including contacts with siblings and sometimes grandparents, parents, or other relatives.
MARE is raising money by an online auction. See link:

I admit I have a stake in this – see item #243 and you will see why [no I won’t give it away, yes you have to go and look].
Anyway, what better way to purchase a father’s day gift then to assist a legal orphan to find a father and/or a mother?
