The government is at an all time low in the credibility department and for lots of good reasons.

It is easy to forget history. Much harder to keep repeating it. If you are not aware of the dangers of globalism by now I can’t nor have the desire to help you.

I’ve never had any flu. Not ever. Never had a flu vaccine. Not ever. Once past all the hype, this strain seems more benign than the usual flu. I’ll join you in passing on this.

viral diseases as you can tell by my sig/link, you should read the international press. Just get out there and read something that isn’t produced by an American outlet. Better yet, create a Google News Alert on A/H1N1 and read what comes into your box. Then make a decision.

Like this one.

p>Regular flu tends to kill children, the aged, and the infirm. That’s why the CDC has guidelines for the vaccinations.

I saw that. In the absence of underlying medical conditions, the likely cause of the events leading to this individual’s death is called a cytokine storm or cytokine cascade. Basically, a healthy immune system freaks out in an overreaction to an offending virus or bacteria, setting off major organ shut down usually resulting in death. This is the real concern with A/H1N1 and is what we’re talking about when we talking about “otherwise healthy people” getting sicker and even dying rather than the usual elderly, the very young, or the immunocompromised. Indeed, because of the severe respiratory complications arising in the young with A/H1N1, there is some suggestion now that folks who were exposed to H1N1 as children prior to 1957 may be immunologically advantaged and that prevention efforts should, therefore, be concentrated on younger populations. This is a departure from usual protocols in years past.

you’ve never read ANYTHING that didn’t come through the filter of your world view and your anti-establishment, paranoia-vetted websites.
<
p>Read the international press on outbreaks and make up your OWN mind. Don’t let people potentially dimmer than you tell you what to think.

p>Google News Alert “A/H1N1” and simply read. Read the outbreak data. It’s easy. Free. Just sayin’.

I do think the panic several weeks ago was overblown. For example, I don’t think shutting down schools for several days was necessary. On the other hand, I’m very willing to listen to people who know what they’re talking about and have received the flu vaccine most years.
lightiris says
Shutting down schools was reflexive, not based on considered public health protocol. Turns out kids are together even when schools are closed. Who knew? Teachers and administrators, that’s who. The CDC has subsequently changed the protocol on school closings after it had time to consider the 21st century lives people lead. We’ve not had a potential public health hazard like this to contend with in years, remember? SARS was contained FOR us, so we never really had to deal with it. We are not prepared in any meaningful way for a public health emergency in this nation. If there is a fatal viral epidemic in this nation, kiss your family goodbye now. If you don’t believe me, you’d better start doing your reading.
<
p>If you listen only to the American news outlets, you will not have a complete view of the A/H1N1 in the southern hemisphere during their winter. I’m not going to comment on what is happening–I have a good handle on it–but I will urge you and other people to read the local news from around the world and what the public health response is in those areas. You’re not hearing it here, and you ABSOLUTELY cannot make an informed decision based on what here read and see in the U.S.
christopher says
On the one hand it sounds like you agree with me that we need not and should not have closed schools. On the other hand it sounds like you’re criticizing me for not taking it seriously enough.
lightiris says
I take the possibility of a serious public health problem quite seriously. Closing schools, however, is not an effective containment strategy. That’s why I don’t think we should bother closing schools.

and for a price they will sell you the cure. You may dismiss my rants as those of a delusional CT endorsing nutjob and that is fine. Consider though I used to be a career professional at a global company in research and development.Private pilot, father of three complete with business admin degree which makes it very easy to translate the corpo-fascism embedded in the daily news.
