The meeting that Barney Frank attended was the most veiwed and talked about this August. It was my pleasure and the pleasure of my committee to have him as our guest. Other than a skirmish with a kid from the Larouche PAC, the meeting went well. As chairman of this committee I tried to subdue the booing and cat calls randomly shouted throughout the crowd, but the purpose behind our meeting was to get questions answered, unfortunately freedom of speech was taken away from those who had legitimate questions by those who had nothing to add to rational discussion. Congressman Frank did a fantastic job that night and his staff is definately one of the best to work with, thank you

I was there, and you were firm but fair. The room was 500 degrees (no fault of yours), and people were agitated and interested. You used your gavel sparingly, and did a fine job being thrust into the national limelight so quickly, as you were.

Are you republican? not that, that matters to me, but just wondering if you are, I wanted to know your perspective. thanks. Alot of people didnt realize that this was not an ordinary meeting and Frank was a guest not a sponsor and that it was a legal committee meeting and i had the authority to confront that larouche kid..I have had someone already threaten to sue the committee because they do not think chap.39 of MGL correspondes to me and the committee. what was your perspective on that and the rest of the meeting

A quick perusal of the MGL suggests to me that Chapter 52 rather than Chapter 39 governs political committees. Even town bodies governed by Chapter 39 have the authority to evict anyone who is disorderly.

Trying to remove a kid from the meeting for being disruptive. Under chpt 39 it states
<
p>Chapter 39: Section 23C. Regulation of participation by public in open meetings
Section 23C. No person shall address a public meeting of a governmental body without permission of the presiding officer at such meeting, and all persons shall, at the request of such presiding officer, be silent. If, after warning from the presiding officer, a person persists in disorderly behavior, said officer may order him to withdraw from the meeting, and, if he does not withdraw, may order a constable or any other person to remove him and confine him in some convenient place until the meeting is adjourned.
<
p>A governmental body
Governmental body”, every board, commission, committee or subcommittee of any district, city, region or town, however elected, appointed or otherwise constituted, and the governing board of a local housing, redevelopment or similar authority; provided, however, that this definition shall not include a town meeting.
christopher says
A partisan committee is not a governmental body. Even if it did fall under this chapter it seems pretty clear you had the authority to remove a disorderly person.
