Massachusetts bloggers unite to support the Jared C. Monti scholarship fund.
The Medal of Honor is this country’s highest military honor: just 3,465 have been awarded since the Civil War when it was established, 618 posthumously. One of the latter has been granted to Jared C. Monti of Raynham, who was killed on 21 June 2006 in Afghanistan while trying to save the life of a comrade. President Obama will present the award to his parents next month.
Monti’s actions “displayed immeasurable courage and uncommon valor,” according to the White House. He is a hero and was fighting for us.
His parents have established the annual Jared C. Monti Memorial Scholarship in his name, a 501(c)(3) corporation. Monti dreamed of becoming a U.S. history teacher after he left the Army.
We thought this was a cause everyone could support, so we decided to team up with WRKO talk show host and blogger Kevin Whalen of Pundit Review, one of differently winged blogosphere friends, to raise money online and on the air on Sunday 30 August from 8-9:00 p.m. Jared’s parents, Kevin, our own David, and perhaps some other guests and callers will be there.
We invite any other bloggers who would like to to join us to please do so. Just send me a note (bob at bluemassgroup dot com), and hotlink to the images here. We’ll update them with your logo as soon as possible. Thanks, and see you all on the 30th at 8:00 p.m. for a liveblog of the discussion and fundraiser.
