First, Jeff Jacoby is old enough to shave . . . and should. Saw him on the TV news tonight and he looks like he lives in The Boston Common or at The Saint Francis House around the corner.
As to his suggestion that Senator Kennedy should resign from his Senate seat because of his brain cancer to insure two Senators represent the state is a fallacy and is about as stupid a proposal I have heard.
Under the current law if Senator Kennedy would resign it would guarantee that his Senate seat would remain vacant for at least 5 months because no election can be held for 5 months from the vacancy.
Seems the radical Jeff Jacoby who I believe was not even born in the United States of America just want to throw another roadblock in the health care debate. There is a belief, which I hope is true beyond any bill in the Senate, that Senator Kennedy by dint of his own will could travel to Washington to vote in the Senate on a health care bill if it before the Congress this Fall.
Senator Kennedy would be in the tradition of John Quincy Adams who was elected to the House after his defeat for a second term as President. Congressman John Quincy Adams literally gave his last breath on the floor of the Congress fighting for a bill. In 1848, he collapsed on the floor of the House from another stroke. He was carried to the Speaker’s Room, where two days later he died.
Senator Kennedy has been a fighter to the end. No reason he should stop now.
Jeff Jacoby’s Fallacy Be Damned !
His writings are enough to judge him by. You don’t need to guess at his origins or make comments about his appearance, and I wish you wouldn’t. That’s a general preference, not specific to Jacoby.
Pointing out Jacoby’s badness is an ongoing sport here. Don’t make your writing the target. Make Jacoby the target.
sounds like a right wing lisping Barney Frank without the humor.
Going from remarks about his looking like a homeless person to remarks about a possible speech impediment is not really improvement.

p>Could you stick to criticism of his ideas, please?
