Because no one should die or have to declare bankruptcy to get health care – so some avail themselves of Mexico’s public option, and retire where they can afford to stay alive and get healthcare.

Why are so many Mexicans coming to USA? __Because their country is a third world shithole.
<
p>Is the progressive movement in such chaotic disaray that you reach for this?
<
p>I really am stunned.

I don’t know why you are ‘stunned’, MCRD.
<
p>I am reporting on events in another country, and the way some Americans responded to them. My reporting is not connected to or reflective of “the progressive movement” whatever that is.
<
p>I admit I was amazed when I came across this article [I read about it in USA Today while traveling – then researched it].
<
p>You should be stunned and appalled that some Americans are driven to leave their country because on a retirement income, they cannot afford health insurance equal to Mexico’s and be able to stay and live in America aka “the USA”.
<
p>Only foreign retirees, not foreigners in general, are eligible, if you noticed. Maybe the hard currency of those foreign retirees is beneficial to Mexico, some kind of tradeoff?
<
p>Anyway WHO’s report
<
p>So, my question to you, MCRD, is why have thousands of Americans chosen to retire in Mexico in order to survive?

Their economy is better than ours. Framingham/Southboro is looking ghostly.

Bill – here is the WHO 2008 report: http://www.who.int/whr/2008/wh…
<
p>Interestingly, the WHO web site has a ton of comparative information; I had never looked at it before.
<
p>I wonder if the countries where immigrants are going home are some of those who have made infrastructure investments, including in health care?
<
p>Several immigrant communities are shrinking here, while others are not. I had noticed the closure of Brazilian-oriented businesses and empty store fronts in Framingham, myself.

Aimed more at the economy.
