As with most things Brown, there are a few “quirks” with the facts. The Newton GOP thing was Sept. 09, and Brown was obsequious in his praise for Card and clearly delighted to have the honor of getting out of the great man’s way. But, this article seems to indicate Brown says he decided to step aside on Sept. 10, after contemplating the matter on a swim and a powwow with Card at a top secret “neutral location.”
State Sen. Scott Brown, a Wrentham Republican, said that he decided on Sept. 10 to defer to Card, reflecting on his options during a two-mile morning swim and meeting with Card later in the day at a “neutral location” near the State House that he declined to disclose.
“We were all set to pull the trigger,” Brown said of his candidacy, telling reporters that Card and former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan of Abington were the only two people he thought could do the job better than himself.
“I at this point am announcing that I am going to encourage all of you to support Andy and encourage him to run,” Brown said as committee members exchanged startled looks. “If you want to talk about a person who can bring back the bacon to Massachusetts, it’s this guy right here.”
“Who better than him? He has met with kings and queens and prime ministers and board chairmen,” Brown said of Card.
Perhaps the reporting is inaccurate, or perhaps Brown realized he looked bad for giving it up so easily, and was trying to post-date his bowing to Card in a belated attempt to regain face.
Anyway, this kind of stuff is exactly why I, for one, am actually little disappointed Brown is out (for now). We really could have really used the three months of comic relief.

All his opponents have to do is link him with the failures of the Bush administration and it’s all over.

Let Card run. Let Card run.

…there are only 4 months until the election, we can’t possibly list all the failures in such a short time.

Talk about a gift wrapped present for Coakley (or whatever Democrat emerges). So obvious it hardly needs to be said:

I can’t imagine the contents of a document titled “Andy Card’s Road to the Senate”. Is it all blank paper?

running, lets all have about 7 minutes of complete and utter stupefication as we stare into the middle distance.

hard for me to believe this because his ego is sooo big, but i heard from some of my republican friends that he never really intended on running for senate because he knew andy was likely to run. sounds like he may have put himself out there to help position himself with Charlie Baker to maybe run with him as LG. wonder if Baker would pick him?

That’s taking it a step further than announcing an exploratory committee.

Is still running for governor. I mention this little tidbit only because he was beating Deval up in the last Rasmussen poll. No matter how much you want Charlie Baker to be your opponent, it’s not happening. Why don’t you really jump on the beaten down nag Ogonowski.

He even purchased christyforsenate.com. RMG has a page grab of the Senate site.

…it was even in the news that Brown had actually announced his candidacy on the Howie Carr show Tuesday night. It was on the Patriot Ledger site at one point, but I can only find it on google cache now: http://74.125.155.132/search?q…

p>I know what you’re saying about his ego, but he’s also insecure and probably flattered the former Chief-of-Staff was paying attention to him. Card played him like a Stradivarius, and got him (and his ego) to walk away for cheap- a few compliments and vague promises.

Especially if Lynch wins the nomination because the liberals will still vote for him to keep out Andy Card. Lynch must be a happy man right now.

I’m starting to wish that Obama and others had heeded that advice regarding health care. It might have saved everyone a lot of grief over the summer.
