Did anyone read the long article in today’s Sunday Globe in which former Republican Governor Bill Weld wholeheartedly endorsed Joe Kennedy for Senate. Weld dissed the crazy right wing of his party – or maybe former party – they left him not the other way around.
The endorsement came in a long discussion of Citizens Oil the not for profit wing of Kennedy’s company and the fact the Citizens Oil gets its oil from Venezuela and Chavez. Weld said that would not be an issue which would defeat Joe Kennedy and only the crazy right wing would consider that a serious issue and they would not be voting for a Kennedy anyway.
Very Interesting………

Atticus…please reread that article…there is no “wholehearted endorsement” from Bill Weld. He comments that JK would be okay as Senator if elected in response in spite of the Chavez ties and that was in response to a direct question. He was not asked who he would endorse for US Senate.
<
p>Your reporting on the article is inaccurate. A formal endorsement it was not.

“I don’t think you’re going to persuade the public that Citizens Energy and delivering free oil to people who can’t afford it is a bad thing. I really don’t think that’s going to stick,” said William F. Weld, a Republican and a former governor of Massachusetts. “[Kennedy’s] not loony left at all, and I think he could be very good in office.

Apparently, you are supporting another candidate and choose not to see what is clearly a de facto endorsement by former Republican Governor Bill Weld of Democrat Joseph Kennedy for Senate.

I thought Bob Dole would do well as President; I endorsed, voted, and volunteered for Clinton in 1996.

p>In last year’s primary, I thought most of the Democrats would do well as President; I endorsed, voted, and volunteered for (the other Clinton).
<
p>Merely acknowledging that a candidate would do well is hardly an endorsement. The statement quoted in no way excludes the possibility that Weld believes others might be at least as good.
atticus says
That a prominent Republican, Willian Weld, would single out one individual out of a large field of candidates and potential candidates to fill the Senate seat of the late Edward M. Kennedy and out of all of those he chose Joseph Kennedy is an endorsement – like it or not.
