Yes, while taking a bit of time out of a beautiful Saturday morning to check what Fox has to say today, I find they are promoting an upcoming interview with public enemy #1 – ACORN, and investigations into torture put our country at risk for future terror attacks, and Obama refuses to be on Fox. Who is sponsoring this… Congressman Capuano!
To be open, I’m leaning towards Martha Coakley though I also love Michael Capuano. He is the 1st out with TV advertising and as such just the 1st to be financially supporting the garbage on Fox. Let’s all of us, whoever we are supporting, ask all of the Democratic candidates to follow Obama’s example and do not sponsor the Fox agenda.
Please share widely!

If he does well representing the interests of Democratic voters and liberal causes on Fox, and does not allow the Fox interviewer to cast him in a bad light, will you look for the same ability in Coakley’s skill set and allow that factor into your calculus of favored candidate?
<
p>Neutralizing opponents’ caustic attacks and refocusing the question on the substantive issues seems to me to be a most important skill in this climate of debate. We saw Robert Gibbs take Sean Hannity on, on Sean’s terms and win. We’ve seen Barney Frank do the same consistently. In my opinion, Capuano’s and Coakley’s skills in the area are of significant importance.

It sounds like we’re talking about a paid ad, not an interview segment. Also, is this really Fox News Channel or the local affiliate? Even if it’s airing on FNC since this is not a national ad it’s probably the cable provider such as Comcast that’s benefiting rather than the station.
sue-kennedy says
not a segment.
<
p>I support all the boycotts of Fox News, Glenn Beck etc. These are the folks organizing the Tea Parties and whipping up opposition to the values we hold dear.
<
p>This is the national Fox News and I don’t know the financial arrangement between Fox and Comcast, but it is disappointing to see any money being raised by Democrats going to sponsor news segments that disseminate false information about Democrats and progressive issues.
<
p>While some advertisers are immune from Democratic boycotts, surely we can sway our own candidates.

He must know something about the FOX audience that I don’t. He is standing up for ACORN on the floor of Congress (which is more than you can say for Kerry) and even handled a question at his announcement presser about that vote in his typical no BS way, as reported by the Herald.
<
p>
<
p>I didn’t know about an organized boycott of Fox, and I’m not sure what I think about it’s effectiveness. I do watch once in a while to test my self control ( I lasted 10 minutes once, which is more than I can watch Lou Dobbs), but I’m going to follow through and ask Michael what his rationale is for placing that ad.
<
p>ITIOFD I am supporting Mike Capuano for US Senate, and to nobody’s surprise I am a long time supporter, a former staff of ACORN.

But even if the corruption is localized it sounds like this group considering its open support for
it is a political action group that is actively taking liberal stances on labor and housing issues. Now I am all in favor of agitating for the minimum wage and fair housing, etc. but I am completely against my tax dollars funding this, just as I would oppose my tax dollars funding any overtly political activity from any political perspective.
somervilletom says
Opposition from the right-wing does not mean that an activity should be ineligible for public funding.
<
p>The right-wing advocates:
<
p>The right wing politicizes the public service provided by ACORN by opposing it — just as the right wing politicizes the global warming research of NASA by denying it.
<
p>The line is properly drawn at overt support for political candidates, as opposed to issues. Here are some activities that should disqualify groups from receiving public funding:
<
p>
<
p>ACORN has done none of the latter.

Who’s he reaching by spending money on Fox?
pablo says
He is probably buying a package of news channels on your local cable system. His ad probably didn’t air beyond your town, and the money went to the cable system – not Fox.
frankskeffington says
First off, everything you have written here over the past three weeks indicates you are a strong Martha Coakley supporter…
<
p>Secondly, as others here have suggested…the local Cable TV ads (or Broadcast TV ads for that matter) aired on national networks are placed on the local affiliated and the revenue is retained by the local affiliated–in this case either Comcast, RCN or Verizon/FIOS. Sure there is a .01% chance that Capuano’s people purchased a national spot so that people in Calf. and the rest of the country can see the ad, but that is foolish and just isn’t happening.
<
p>It appears you have no concern about stopping the “Fox agenda” but really want to create a false perception about Capuano and his loyalties.
hlpeary says
In defense of Sue K….she may sincerely not know how this ad buying stuff works. Fox News has the highest ratings and EVERY candidate will buy Fox during peak reach times to get their message out…even if they despise Fox POV and bias…you must go where the voters are…
<
p>I support Martha Coakley and would encourage her to buy all the stations she can…there’s an old expression by Dag Hammershold: “If the mad man hollers in the marketplace and no one responds, it makes his theory appear incontrovertible.”
<
p>We should get the other side of the story on Fox, even if we have to pay to do so.
sue-kennedy says
I did in fact include my support of Coakley and respect for the Congressman in my post. I also noted that he is likely to be just the 1st to advertise on FOX as he is the 1st to advertise.
<
p>It is a learning experience as to how the spots are contracted, but still believe that it can and should be done. The boycott of FOX advertisers is an important as Fox News has engaged in the intentional deception and manipulation of information in order to influence the actions and behaviors of their viewers.
<
p>I have also previously posted comments here at BMG on this topic including August 15: http://vps28478.inmotionhosting.com/~bluema24/s…
<
p>Boycotting Democrats is a bad idea, but hopefully we can all ask our candidates not to advertise on FOX.

Capuano is buying spots on Fox 25 because it has the fastest growing audience in the Boston media market.
<
p>From the Boston TV News media analysis site:

<
p>WBZ won again at 11 PM; WCVB remains the dominant station in town by winning part of the morning and all of the daytime shows; WFXT continues to do better and better in the morning, and owns late night news at 10 PM.
<
p>The above refers to the July ratings; as such it’s just a snapshot in time. The trend, however is working in Channel 25’s favor.
