I think I’ve waited long enough to say something. This controversy over the president’s speech to school children is apparently very close minded. Since the time of FDR presidents have been using huge mass communication to reach audiences both young and old. Any protest of the president’s speech is ridiculous. I’ve tried to find other instances where there have been overt efforts to prevent young people to listening to the words of their president and I have found none. It saddens me to think that this could be due to the color of the president’s skin. I hope that I am wrong with this assumption given the amount of time that has passed since the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It made me proud to know as a student the president realized that our education was a crucial piece to solving the puzzle of America’s problems. I hope that this is the last time that any conservative or other groups in this country will show disrespect to the office of the president. He is our leader no matter what your political ideology is and we should listen to his ideas because they could lead us to recovery and prosperity. President Obama only wants all of the children of the United States to be educated and to take full advantage of their educational opportunities. This I think any president would want regardless of race, religion, or ethnic origin. We watched it here in West Boylston. There was mixed applause but i think there was general approval
