Why does the right wing claim our President is a communist, but still support trading with CHINA, a Communist country. Don’t they know that every dollar we spend on a chinese product we support communism. I have proposed a by-law for my town of Dartmouth, that we will only buy Made in USA, State, POW TOWN and USA flags, and someone told me they are a veteran and PROUDLY fly a USA flag mad in CHINA, now if this person fought in Vietnam or Korea, they were fighting Communist regimes and NOW buy OUR FLAG from them.

p>2. China funds our debt. So it is not as if “every dollar we spend on a Chinese product” supports communism. It also, apparently, supports the dollar, i.e., our currency.

I don’t care what they call themselves, but they are a run-of-the-mill mixed-capitalist dictatorship with more in common with modern Russia or Saudi Arabia than a truly Communist system.
that the economic relationship of debtor/debtholder is a mutual war deterrent?
No, I don’t buy into that theory as I haven’t read enough or thought enough to buy into it or its opposite.
<
p>I flatter myself into thinking that I can recognize oversimplifications of the U.S. relationship with China, though.
What would happen to our country if tomorrow China decided to stop buying our debt? Be honest… suddenly they “pass” on picking up $1 trillion dollars of our debt.
<
p>I do however think we should be seriously looking at our trade deficit with them…

John, is this an excuse not to support American companies? Although our trade deficit is huge, most of Chinese exports are bought right here in the USA, so if the chinese were to either ask for all the money back plus interest or stop buying our debt, we can shut our borders down to their exports and then their economy would come to a halt. Both countries would suffer emensely.
Personally, I wish we had imposed sanctions after the Tiannamen crackdown of 1989. They continue to have abyssmal human rights and labor conditions that run directly contrary to our values. Not only do we trade, but we grant them Most Favored Nation status. We can and should do better.
