Capuano’s tact of laying claim to the progressive Kennedy legacy is undermined by the backwards and sometimes comical union types gravitating to his campaign.
Take Nage for example. The National Association of Government Employees represents state workers, a few police in Mass, federal military workers, and police in the South. NAGE is run by Dave Holway, a former Department of Corrections Manager, and lobbyist for various corporations (Lockeed martin) and public pension funds (Norfolk County). The lobbyist for NAGE is Ray McGrath, an ex Worcester cop, who recently was voted off the Worcester Pension board by his own members.
The excessive pay and sleezy practices of Holway were hilariously reported by the great Steve Bailey, late of the Boston Globe,

Nage also holds the record for the largest fine ever paid to the OCPF read here:

And recently a Nage leader and close associate of Holway was caught taking kick backs from a drug company for promoting certain medications for union members.

The list goes on, I’m sure others have other stories, but you get the picture.
Hardly fits in with the progressive image Mike is trying to uphold.
