PDM Members:
This year we stick a toe into the pond of local elections. I am writing to introduce the PDM Quarter Dozen and ask for your help electing these promising progressive Democrats to local office.
At our last Statewide Coordinating Committee (SCC) meeting we considered a list of five candidates. As with our PDM Half Dozen, in addition to their political values, we assessed the resources PDM members could bring to the
these campaigns and the potential for our endorsement to have meaningful impact.
The SCC agreed to endorse three candidates:
– Jason Grow, candidate for City Council in Gloucester
– Sharon Guzik, candidate for School Committee in Medford
– Mary Keefe, candidate for City Council in Worcester, and founding member of
PDM
You can help them by reaching out to friends and family who live in these cities and asking them to consider supporting our candidates, and by making donations and volunteering for their campaigns. Contact information for the
three campaigns is at the end of this email.
Local elections matter. One reason, of course, is “pipeline politics”. Races for city and town offices are where many of our legislators got their start in electoral politics. Another, perhaps more important reason, is that participation in these campaigns builds the skills and relationships that are the fundamental building blocks of political power. If you’re not sure about this, ask PDM founding member Fred Clarkson about the role of local politics
in the rise of right wing power over the past few decades.
So please take a few minutes to tell people about our PDM Quarter Dozen, make a donation, and volunteer to help. If you are free on the afternoon of Sunday October 18th, you can join fellow PDM from around the state in Worcester to
support Mary Keefe’s campaign as it enters the home stretch. More details for this event will be posted on www.progresivedemsofmass.org.

p.s. If you do contribute to one of these campaigns, add a quarter to your
donation and make it $5.25, $25.25, $50.25, or $100.25 so we can see the PDM
contributions making a difference.
p.p.s. Join us on Sunday October 18th in Worcester to canvass for Mary Keefe

How did you miss Joe O’Brien for Mayor in Worcester…you won’t find a more progressive candidate than Joe….am surprised by your oversight.

It wasn’t an oversight. Joe is a great progressive candidate, as are some others around the state. We considered several factors including an estimate of what resources we thought we could bring to the campaigns, and how significant that contribution might be.
