That’s a big if, isn’t it?  It isn’t clear to me that Scozzafava’s supporters will rally around Hoffman after having been told that they aren’t real Republicans (RINOs).  Hoffman also doesn’t seem to know anything about local issues.

Like 90% of Massachusetts, I guess you can’t get elected in upper NY state unless you are a republican and conversely you can’t get elected in MA unless you are a dem. So Scozzafava was interested in party—only being elected so she hung out the Republican shingle. her polling and contributions were plummetting as fast as Hoffman’s were rising. I doubt that the democrat candidate will pick up many defectors, but he may.

      <

p>What this speaks to is that the entire republican party may be fractured and that America may be faced with two types of candidates and parties–far left and far right. Pelosi is as far left as you can get. I believe reid is a centrist but leans left. Obama is waaaaaay over on the left. At the moment—bost elected Repubs are fairly moderate—that may change soon. This does not bode well for either party.

Based on previous experience it may well be closer than polls indicate.

Obama was campaigning for him just this week and Deeds has come from behind before.

Geez, I remember the day when I had to wait until Election Night to see how many seats the Republicans would lose.  Now, this formerly Republican seat is out of the party’s hands, and almost nobody has even voted yet.

            an election?

Most people would say some guy from outside the district, who skipped the debate, who doesn’t understand local issues, who was denied the Republican endorsement, is the one who threw the election.

Then they are history—sooner rather than later. Some republicans have finally figured that they have been nothing more than “Blue Dogs”. Why should a voter vote or vote for a republican if there is no essential difference. George Bush killed the republican party by several disastrous policies, one being open borders and the other is criminal fiscal irresponsibility. For those two offenses I place him a whisker abover James E carter. Although I despise Clinton, at least Clinton had some semblence of fiscal restraint.

p>This country will soon pay for it’s lack of prudent fiscal policy and it will pay dearly. There is absolutely no reason for any country to attack USA militarily because we are committing national suicide as well as fratricide.

p>Have you switched the channel from Fox News?  We are already paying dearly for Bush’s lack of prudent fiscal policy.

    House Democrats

    Israel met secretly with Scozzafava

Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY), who is in charge of new candidate
recruitment for House Democrats, played a key role in getting
Republican Dede Scozzafava to back Democrat Bill Owens — just hours
after she dropped out of the NY-23 race on Saturday, Dem sources tell
    me.

Former state Democratic chairwoman June O’Neill, a friend of
Scozzafava’s who brokered the Owens endorsement, arranged for Israel,
who was already in western New York, to have coffee with the moderate
Republican at 4 p.m. yesterday at Gouverneur, N.Y. eatery near
    Scozzafava’s home.

Even though she had already spoken to Attorney General Andrew Cuomo
and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), Scozzafava was apparently rattled and
needed some face-to-race reassurance that backing a Democrat was a
good idea, according to people familiar with the situation.

Plus her cellphone voice mailbox was overloaded with Democratic
messages and stopped taking incoming calls. Scozzafava left the
meeting more relaxed and clearly leaning towards endorsing Owens over
Conservative Party hopeful Doug Hoffman, a person familiar with the
    exchange told me.

Israel declined to comment, saying he doesn’t talk about private conversations.

p>Yes indeed,, It appears as if this woman intentionally was attempting to throw the election. Just the type of person you want in your party. Benedict Arnold did so well in England after the war and his betrayal.
