As the days get shorter and shorter it is nearly impossible to hear WRKO west of Fenway Park. In addition, its regular signal really sounds corrupted at full power.
Have you noticed that Entercom has put all the Red Sox games on WEEI the old WHDH 850 because of the extremely poor signal. Also, WBZ now has the Sports Hub Radio Station on FM 98.5 [ the old WBCN] and Entercom maybe trying to blunt that competition. Look for the Red Sox to JUMP to FM 98.5 as soon as its contract with Entercom allows.
So, politics aside it would be a waste of campaign dollars to go on WRKO AM 680 any time.
The morning disaster of “Felon” Tom Finneran and Todd Feinburg, who gets grossly offended if someone thinks his is a Jew, are a caricature of bad radio and the limited local access on syndicated Ingraham and Oxy Limbaugh isn’t worth the return on the dollar.
Let the boycott of Howie Carr run by all means but the more important reason to do so it that WRKO AM 680 has no signal range out of its immediate studio.
Stating the obvious Howie is a fake – a hypocrite [ serial wives/ bad driving record etc] but he has very limited demographic and psychographic audience numbers and he is broadcasting on a station with a very bad signal which again will get worse as the days get shorter.
Do not be surprised if WRKO is sold in a year. Look for some even more Right-Wing quasi- religious group to make a bid for its license.
The once great WRKO days with the likes of Gene Burns, Jerry Williams and David Brudnoy are gone forever.
If I were advising any of the candidates and making media buys the only AM station I would recommend would be WBZ 1030 AM. It has a high cume which means listeners are tuning in and out throughout the day which can be a problem but it will give a candidate radio coverage worth every dollars.
