Email received yesterday from Mary Beth Cahill:
As Senator Edward Kennedy’s former chief of staff, I know no one can ever really fill his shoes. But in just 14 days, we have a wonderful opportunity to secure the Democratic nomination for someone who shares his vision, tenacity, and progressive values — and make history at the same time.
Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley has promised to follow in Senator Kennedy’s footsteps every day, and I know she’ll also blaze a few trails of her own. As a Massachusetts native, I am thrilled by this historic opportunity to elect the state’s first woman senator.
I’ve worked on enough campaigns to know that the last weeks are when the rubber hits the road. Martha’s opponents will do whatever they can to knock down Martha, the frontrunner, and gain ground. I have no doubt that we will see a barrage of attacks leveled at Martha as the December 8 election draws closer
Martha has worked tirelessly to promote progressive values, improve the lives of women and families, and protect the right to choose. She is a true progressive who has consistently stood up to special interests to do what’s right for the people she represents. I know she will be a powerful advocate for us in the Senate.
So do we, such as valuing reproductive care choice over health care reform. Blazing new trails like that one is what worries me.

p>Mary Beth Cahill was the Executive Director of EMILY’s List. She was John Kerry’s second campaign manager.
<
p>Taking money from a single-issue PAC is fine with me when you show some balance in valuing the issues being decided upon in the legislature.
<
p>How much money has Emily ‘s List donated to Coakley’s campaigns? (And where would I look tht up?) Not that I disagree with Emily’s List’s agenda, just that I think it should be accomplished in concert with other important agendas.
Every comment like this I see on BMG confirms for me how much better a candidate Coakley is than Capuano.
<
p>As a woman old enough to have sisters who grew up when abortion was not legal, I want a Senator who will never make light of reproductive choice and healthcare for women.

It expressed mild disagreement, but basically sounded conciliatory. As they say, politics ain’t beanbag, but if even that strikes you as negative I respectfully suggest you grow a bit of skin. Plus comments on BMG should not be taken as reflective on a candidate unless the commenter is speaking for the campaign. Frankly, you’ve had your share of comments with attitude yourself.
<
p>… She was also Ted Kennedy’s Chief of Staff, worked in the Clinton White House as well as with Pat Leahy and Barney Frank, and has fundraised for most of the women Democrats who’ve ever ran for office in the entire lower 48 as well as our own Deval Patrick. She’s got so much in the way of progressive bona fides she could probably give you half of what you need to be taken seriously and not miss it… She’s also probably one of the handful of endorsers in this race (for any candidate) who’s worked closely with both Martha Coakley and Michael Capuano.

to do petr is to stop with the ad hominem, “she could probably give you half of what you need to be taken seriously and not miss it… “ I don’t care if you take me seriously but I’d prefer if you would stop attacking me on a personal level.
