I was a little surprised when I saw this too. Is that what the Brown Brigade is spending their time on? What a waste of time and money!

p>I also think the criticism of Coakley’s answer to the foreign policy question was just a little but unfair. She was also asked if she traveled abroad and the reference to her sister was related to that part of the question.

He’s a state senator, not a US Senator. His foreign travel probably consists of catching the Red Sox playing the Blue Jays at Rogers Stadium in Toronto. This could easily be used against him during the election.

Coakley is best known for whining about losing the Woodward? case.
Pal is noted for his blue shirts.
Khazei is best known for being unknown.
ROTC, BC law school, lawyer in the National Guard.

p>It’s OK to use the system (tax dollars for education) if you’re white, right and wearing a uniform and raking in big six figures a year moonlighting on your state rep/state senate job…or maybe the state rep/state senate job is the moonlighting job?

I searched for any mention of Brown serving overseas, or receiving any decorations for same, but there is nothing. His Website has this:
Brown was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service in homeland security after the attacks of September 11, 2001.
I would think that if he’d served outside the US, that biography would mention it.

While one skill set might be connected to the other they are not necessarily connected. Serving is honorable. However, military service should not be confused with foreign policy knowledge and experience unless they are in fact one and the same. Serving as an adviser on Homeland Security and/or legal matters is not the same as combat. That’s all I’m saying.

is not necessarily relevant to foreign-policy acumen. Serving in combat is not at all relevant, except for those whose approach to foreign policy is to club other nations into submission. It is possible to gain insight into foreign policy from military service, but it’s not an inevitable result.

I just can’t get past the “Brown Brigade” as the name for your supporters.
I keep having imagines of them wearing matching shirts, if you know what I mean…

attempting to spook voters with a Halloween theme.
Is this the caliber of campaigns we have to suffer through again?

p>If you think about it, tho, it’s the distilled essence of the Republican message since, at least, Newt Gingrich had the party: “The GOP is bold because Democrats suck.”
Given the characteristics here, I expected the video to be much worse. But I think it’s more effective than Baker’s initial effort. There’s no way it’s nearly as offensive as the dark garage ad.
<
p>Why do I think it’s effective?
<
p>It’s intended to be red meat; to raise money but also to show there’s an active Republican that can put together a message to attack a Democratic opponent.
<
p>Sure he needs to build up his positive image. But this piece is obviously a quick and cheap production. And it’s just good enough that a lot of Republicans might have forwarded it and started to build a notion that this guy might be worth backing.
<
p>The trouble is that he doesn’t have a lot of time to let this kind of stuff take root and create actual momentum for the campaign. And he likely won’t have the money to compete with whatever Dem makes it through.
<
p>Yes, Brown Brigade is a bad name. I can’t decide whether they will remind people more of Nazi’s or Doodies.
