Mrs. Irene Davey, 101-year-old veteran from Attleboro, Massachusetts, got a surprise visit on Saturday. Congressman Mike Capuano stopped by her residence just as she was mailing her absentee ballot for the Massachusetts Special Democratic Primary! Irene proudly displayed her ballot, and told Mike that he had earned her vote.
Mrs. Davey is the oldest living Massachusetts female veteran. She joined the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps in 1943, serving as a motor pool driver and recruiter at a time when few women enlisted in the military. Mrs. Davey was a technician third grade, the equivalent of a staff sergeant, at the time of her honorable discharge. She is currently the oldest female veteran living in Massachusetts.
