A friend of mine got a call this weekend by someone doing a Mayoral poll. I had no idea who it could have been…until this morning when I began seeing some chatter on the interweb about a new Mayoral poll coming out tonight on Channel 7, that was done by Suffolk University.
There’s action on Boston.com, bostonherald.com, UHUB and Twitter in the #bostonelection section.
What gives? Why don’t they release the poll now?
Please share widely!

In general, when the media commission a poll, it’s released when it gets the largest possible audience. Weekend audiences are notoriously small and inattentive.
<
p>If the actual polling was done over the weekend, Channel 7 would wait until a Monday evening audience could view the results.

Media organizations generally don’t like to release polls right before an election.
<
p>Similarly, most media will stop covering controversial issues in the final days of a campaign.
<
p>Of course, there are exceptions to both of these rules.

for tv you’re absolutely right, but print media is really only profitable a few days a week, including sat and sun. So if it was a Globe poll, I don’t think they’d mind publishing results on a Sat or Sun… and they’d have certainly published results on the Monday before the Tuesday election.
<
p>My guess is that this was a campaign’s poll.

I have already answered one mayoral poll and two senate polls but have not seen any published polls matching the questions I was asked. Presumably these were all internal polls.
<
p>The campaigns may be doing late polling in order to figure out where they should focus their robocalls and get-out-the-vote efforts.

I have heard from a few neighbors who got a very quick poll with a few questions. They were live callers or an auto call type of poll. The campaigns are trying to figure out who they can pull out on Tuesday. Floon is going to win my precinct, and since he lost my precinct in the prelim, I am pleased. The Floon ticket has helped where I live in Dorchester. Good stuff.
