Trying to pull a fast one? I hope the national GOP realizes their 41st vote is is right here in bluest of the blue Massachusetts. Thank you for your efforts in trying to elect Scott Brown our next US Senator! Ted must be turning over in his grave. He never had to resort to this garbage. How much did Nelson get? Massachusetts? Nothing! Never mind Social Darwinism, Socialism at its worst.
Please share widely!

…that the 1AM vote you refer to was a result of GOP delaying tactics. Besides, C-SPAN cameras WERE rolling. You don’t really think Brown will be elected, do you?
billxi says
The morning news? I understand. I think you might have just handed Scott Brown the election. Things you do at 1 in the morning are things you are ashamed of.
mr-lynne says
… make sense except it was all over the morning news.

HAHAHAHA!!! Funniest line on BMG all year! đŸ˜€

Even if you’re not inclined to stay up you can find out how Senators voted.
billxi says
The vote began at 1:08 AM. Of course it did miss the morning newspapers. I’m waiting to see the democratic hurry-up offense so we can’t have the 41st vote in time.
christopher says
Especially in a 24-hour news cycle, things don’t disappear because they missed the morning deadline. Your whining accomplishes nothing!

billxi and Senator Byrd.
johnd says
Sen Byrd, ” I vote yes.. hey what did I just vote for and where am I?” (only kidding)
<
p>Can the BMGers who were questioning John McCain’s mental faculties during his Presidential run please comment on Sen Byrd’s mental capacity at this point.
christopher says
As far as I can tell Byrd’s mind is still pretty sharp, but even if we accept your premise, it is certainly possible for different people to be in different situations.
johnd says
meaning McCain is an “old” Republican while Byrd is a young “Democrat”. I can see how they are different situations for sure. I’m to lazy to go back and look but I argued how McCain was spry and listed numerous Democrats (like Byrd…) who were actually older than McCain but of course “that” also was different because this was for President and not a lowly US Senator position (who must not need their minds).
christopher says
…that there is no absolute correlation between age and capacity. I don’t believe I ever argued that McCain’s age was a concern, though it is more traumatic for a President to die in office than a Senator, especially given who would have become President if McCain didn’t survive.
mr-lynne says
… Byrd wasn’t running for POTUS. Might be a salient distinction.
johnd says
if somebody is too old to be President then they are too old to be a US Senator. I am not proposing the jobs are even close to being equal but they are close enough. I’m sure you’ll agree that with Healthcare being passed/not-passed by a one vote margin then a US Senator can be a very important person (needing all their faculties).
mr-lynne says
… but I’d argue that the actual mental and physical energy requirements both for running for and actually working for each office are vastly different. So to repeat; no, I don’t think that being ‘too old to be President’ automatically also means ‘too old to be Senator’. Byrd might be too old to be either, but that’s not the point I’m making here.
sabutai says
I don’t think Senator Byrd has the physical vigor to serve as a Senator in a way that his constituents deserve. He has an excellent staff who are doing too much heavy lifting. I haven’t seen enough to speak about his mental vigor at the moment.
<
p>However, having witnessed Senator Bunning’s senile re-election, where he hid in a basement and read off of cue cards during a supposed debate, and avoided the electorate whenever possible.
<
p>Let’s give the people of Kentucky a Senator aware of his environment, then we can talk about other people.

Scott Brown?
billxi says
You guys just shot yourselves in the ass.
kathy says
The GOP delaying tactics caused the vote at 1 AM. And everyone but you knows that.
billxi says
Until daytime? Irepeat: Things you do at 1 AM are things you are ashamed of.

Such as when Republicans controlled the Senate and rejected: the Boxer Amdt. No. 684; To require a specific plan to help AIDS orphans, and the Kennedy Amdt. No. 681; To provide for the procurement of certain pharmaceuticals at the lowest possible price for products of assured quality.
<
p>But maybe the most shameful vote, taken at 12:50 AM on 10/11/02: H.J.Res. 114; Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002.
billxi says
Sorry, I’m not the most devoted Republican in the world.

I’m willing to make a wager with you that Martha wins. If Scott Brown wins, I will stop posting on both BMG and RMG. If Martha wins, you stop posting at BMG.
<
p>As a conservative, you should be willing to take some responsibility for your actions. You spew opinions based on fantasy, and your groundless opinions should have consequences. Just as mine should.
<
p>So Billxi, feeling lucky?
billxi says
With Nickki Tsongas-Sam Meas.
frankskeffington says
At first I was going to take your “bet”. But then realized you’d get an extension until next November to write the silliest, groundless things and try and dress it up as wisdom. Nope. You made a rock solid prediction about something that will happen in less than a month, and I’m calling you on it NOW. Typical Republican/Conservative to kick the can ahead to some point in the future and delay you’re appointment with reality.
billxi says
Classified my writing as wisdom. I’m glad you hold me in such high esteem. Why on’t you say something as outlandish as “the Patriots will win the championship”, They won’t. You folks need someone to tell you the emperor forgot his trousers. Several times.
I’m sorry if truth hurts your soft feelings.
christopher says
Then for once we agree!:)

Republican predictions:

p>1. Scott Brown will win the January special election.
2. Tax cuts will create jobs in Massachusetts.
3. Tax
giveawaysincentives will keep companies like Raytheon in Massachusetts.billxi says
Is an international company. With branches in such lands as far away as New Hampshire? BTW, the NH purchasing department does an awful lot of buying for other branches.
I don’t see raising taxes creating many jobs. Unless you’re a friend of the governor.
In an unscientific poll, WBZ TV has Brown with 80% of the vote, Coakley 17%.

You’ve got that part right. I suspect that poll has about as much predictive value as the boston.com poll showing Alan Khazei in the lead.
<
p>In the late 1990s, Massachusetts bent over backwards to extend tax breaks to Raytheon to “encourage them to expand in Massachusetts instead of moving jobs to less expensive states.”
<
p>How did THAT work out, Bill?
