Moments before the Senate voted on the health care bill this morning, this item hit the AP newswire:
A blizzard warning has been expanded this morning to include northwestern Nebraska, along with Kansas, western North Dakota and northern Minnesota.
In what is already being hailed as a historic last-minute legislative maneuver, Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) was able to secure an amendment to the health care bill that prohibits blizzard conditions from entering Nebraska. Blizzards will henceforth be required to detour north through South Dakota or south through Kansas. Objections on the floor by Senators from South Dakota and Kansas were ruled out of order, and President Obama questioned why those Senators would want to deny real health care reform to millions of Americans.
Lieberman probably would have liked that deal this past weekend for his state too.
As the ad says: He ran on with the Connecticut for Lieberman Party and not the Lieberman for Connecticut Party.
Better cut a separate check for the plow.
The Senate debate and bill on health care reform is a true example of why we need to elect grown-ups to represent us Washington. I have never been so disappointed and disgusted in my life. It makes me want to fight even harder to get new Democrats in, and kick the children out.
I don’t think it was the Dems that were the major problem here. We should have been able to do this WITHOUT Lieberman, Nelson, Lincoln, and Landrieu. The problem isn’t Democrats who won’t march in lockstep on every single issue, the problem is Republicans using the filibuster on every piece of legislation to bring Congress to a complete halt. If not for the GOP’s abuse of the filibuster, we’d still have a public option, still have a medicare buy-in, and we probably could have even had it LAST WEEK.

with a spine.
Obviously Nelson wanted to protect his state’s traditional annual handouts from red-suited sleigh-drivers from Up North.
Nelson, like Joshua, commanded the sun to stand still to turn Nebraska into a sunshine state.
in the provision which will effectively ban health care policies in the exchange that include abortion coverage, everyone gets a free coat hanger.
