Perhaps it was not uncommon in those days to marry a first cousin but the name being “Bloodgood” is rather amusing in this case.

Interesting how the concern changed from affinity relationships to consanguinity. I wonder if any of states that prohibit cousins from marrying allow cousins to procreate together as long as they don’t marry? It’s interesting how taken for granted it is that allowing marriage allows procreating with each other, and that prohibiting marriage is supposed to prohibit procreating with each other….
