I’m proud to say I live in the only town in the Commonwealth that voted for Alan Khazei.
Given what a great candidate he was, and how hard I and many others worked on his campaign, I’m sad that it was the only town.
Alan is a terrific public servant, and I’m sure we haven’t heard the last of him in Bay State politics.
On to 2010!

I hope you enjoy the poem I posted a few moments ago. And, frankly, while my candidate won, I hope your candidate is indeed willing to engage in governance because I do think he has a lot to offer and I also am willing to bet that both he and you will do two things, at a minimum:
<
p>1. Work to strengthen and sustain the ground organization that Alan Khazei built in his first run for state office in a mere eight weeks. The effort and the organization were both impressive and deserve further efforts and maturation as an organization.
<
p>2. Continue to be involved in the “governance dialogue” – perhaps through use of the blogosphere, such as here at BlueMassGroup, perhaps through appointment to a significant Board or position [I think that Alan Khazei would make a superb DOE head – not sure if the head of DOE these days is a “secretary” or a “commissioner”. The idea of Alan Khazei taking over the Department of Children and Families is also revolutionary.]

You and I don’t always agree on candidates or issues, but I know we share the same values. I appreciate your kind comments.

It is not everybody that can get his town to vote for his guy. When I saw that your town had gone for Alan, I had a big smile for you this morning.

I think Alan Khazei should consider running for a statewide office in 2010. I’m not sure which office would be best suited for him. But, he now has higher name recognition and a base of supporters and donors.

p>AG? Secretary of State? Treasurer? Auditor?

That is a great position from which to speak of Big Citizenship…citizen involvement the process. I think Steve Grossman has a great grasp on what it takes to be a progressive treasurer.

But it would seem like Khazei would only run for Secretary of State if Galvin opts for a run for AG.

…would give Khazei a serious look even if he primaries Galvin.

And he’d probably put in a better showing that Bonifaz in ’06 (who I also voted for).
