My congressman is Ed Markey. I called his office this afternoon and asked what he planned to do about the health care bill. A nice young woman, very earnest, very helpful, said he was “deeply concerned”, “knows there are still problems”, but “is waiting to see what direction the White House and Senate want to go in.”
I told her (quietly, politely) that actually the ball was in the House’s court, and that I appreciated the difficult circumstances, but that I had better see a result. Because if Democrats cannot, with control of the WH and larger majorities in congress than Bush ever had, pass their main piece of legislation, then they, and by extension Mr. Markey, did not deserved my vote, my time, my energy, or my money. Because what would be the point?
Frankly I’m furious at the moment. Like, can’t think of anything else furious.

Even under control of the same party the House is under no obligation to do something just by the Senate’s or President’s timing.

Any result in particular? I mean, the Senate bill becoming law would be a result.

p>I’m still hoping for a progressive result via an amendment passed through reconciliation.
