If you wish to join and are not a spammer, please reply to this email with some information about who you are (you need not divulge your real name if you do not want to, but rest assured that all information from legitimate users is kept confidential) and why you want to join the site. We will send you your password as soon as possible. Please be patient, as we must do this manually.

Nice.
maybe?
Curious – is this just until January 20 or is this a longer-term set of restrictions?
ever since we had the huge spam invasion. It’s an ongoing problem. Any new user gets this email, and people seeking lost passwords get a similar one. I don’t see an immediate solution — it will continue post-Jan 19.
David and his fellow editors have been reasonable in their approach to automated posters. There is no easy way to review each request to make sure it is a “real” person.
<
p>BMG has been very open to contrary views and opinions and I think the differences add to many of the discussions.
<
p>I also think that David and the editors would not allow someone to join because they hold a different political perspective. All they want is to ensure that the person requesting the log on id and password is a real person, etc.
<
p>I may not always agree with them and their positions, but they have been inclusive and open for which I applaud them and hope it will continue. As for the response in the email above, I find it offensive (and would regardless of which party said it) and hope it does not change David and his fellow editors’ approach to providing access.
<
p>David et al – thank you for what you do. Its a hard job and you deserve kudos.
Does Soapblox not have some sort of CAPTCHA solution? That’s the usual method of making sure they are humans…
you show more grace than I would have, I’d have left his email intact…
