A Charlie Brown Baker ad popped up from the online Boston Globe this morning, totally obscuring the front page. Yes, I use Firefox with a current ad-blocker.
Far more offensive than the annoying Netflix popunders, this was on top, rather than underneath. It seemed larger than the 1024×1024 size at which I normally keep my browser windows. I even think he was lying talking, his lips were moving (I don’t know because I keep the audio volume turned off for just such annoyances). He was doing some silly animated Clutch Cargo thing until I got the damned thing closed. I note that he also had an ad placement in the top right sidebar, unusual because my adblocker stops most of those.
Does Charlie Baker have any idea of just how strongly web users react against aggressive advertising like this? On what genre of sites does he spend most of his internet time? Does he really think that this is how to take advantage of the internet? Does he think he’s going to attract anybody with this? Who?
Or was this, instead, a dastardly prank pulled by a guerrilla go-team of highly advanced Democratic Party operatives?
I would sincerely like the Charlie Baker campaign to explain this offensive ad placement. I certainly hope it’s not the first of many.

Install FlashBlock.

p>A friend noticed this too. Navigating to the Globe site, I saw that it would have happened to me too if I didn’t have FlashBlock to protect me from the handiwork of the handy Republican handidate.

I’ve had Ad blocker installed for awhile now, FlashBlock is totally cool. It speeds up page load times impressively, while stopping the garbage (like that annoying netflix popup).

p>Thanks for the great tip!

Thanks for the lead about FlashBlock, I’ll grab it.

p>Charlie
BrownBaker was back for an encore performance just now. The annoying piece has a button to click for sound, but no visible means (that I can see) of making it just go away.<
p>Memo to the Charlie Baker campaign team (maybe one of our otherwinged RMG participants can forward it):

p>“Install FlashBlock” is not a winning message.
