I just received a forward of an email. Here’s part of it:
“Proposed changes to the current FEHB program would increase health care costs for both single and family coverage. There are more equitable ways to expand health insurance coverage for those Americans who have inadequate, or no health care, than to do so at the expense of Federal workers and their families. Please visit the NTEU website to see what you can do to preserve the current FEHB program.

But could the workers have plans that could be classified as “Cadillac Plans” under the Senate bill and therefore subject to the excise tax? There have been meetings between union representatives and administration officials, including last night with Obama himself, to discuss their concerns with the incorporation of the excise tax in the final plan.
<
p>That’s one possibility.
If it affects federal workers and postal workers, it affects a lot of people. I’m surprised the Cadillac plan tax got this far.
…if only because the postal workers’ union seems fired up over it. Nice of the “Democrats” in the Senate and White House to prioritize taxing public workers over taxing the wealthy.
I have spoken to a number of friends, people in line at the coffee shop and the HVAC guy who fixed my heat and to a person they are shocked that the Cadillac Tax could hit them. Those who are members of unions are especially disappointed because they feel that they have given up pay in return for retaining benefits over the years. Now they are shocked to find out that approach may lead to higher taxes.
<
p>The impact of the Cadillac Tax has been discussed to a moderate degree, but does not seem to have been widely disseminated to the union members who will be impacted. It seems as though that has changed in the last few days and based on my small sampling, they are not happy.
<
p>They are also not happy that Martha is not speaking out against this tax even when she had a chance on Monday night. They are also angered over Obama seeming to support this tax which will hit them after they voted for him to a person (again my small sample).
<
p>Not sure if this will impact the Senate race, but issues take a different perspective when it hits your own pocketbook as these folks demonstrated.
