The Governor this morning told local officials he opposes cuts in aid to cities and towns, according to this Boston Globe story:
A day after pledging no new cuts to schools, Governor Deval Patrick told municipal leaders he would fight to stave off any reductions in aid to the state’s cash-strapped cities and towns, a welcome relief to local officials who had braced for another round of steep cuts and layoffs.
The legislature will not agree, but the battle is now joined. In doing so, Patrick is launching his reelection campaign with a return to one of the central issues of his original candidacy.
