I’m not buying the new poll putting Scott Brown only 9 points behind Coakley, but maybe the race is much closer than I think it is.
This race should not be close; Scott Brown is not a good candidate. He has been a typical (moderate) Massachusetts Republican throughout his career, but he’s swallowed the national Republican party line whole during this campaign. He will not be an independent Senator as he claims. He will just do what Mitch McConnell says.
Today he said something absolutely ridiculous.
Brown also took a hard line against the coming terrorism trials in New York City, lambasting Attorney General Eric Holder by saying, “It’s time we stopped acting like lawyers and started acting like patriots.” He also defended the use of waterboarding, disagreeing with Sen. John McCain (who endorsed him recently): “I do not believe it is torture. America does not torture, and we used aggressive, enhanced interrogation techniques.”
Coakley should have crushed Brown for these comments.
I did not support Coakley in the primary, and have not been impressed with her general campaign. In this race, as in the primary, she does not seem like she is trying to win. I like some fight in my politicians, and have yet to see that from her.
She should have put him away long ago, but apparently this race is getting tighter.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at these two gems:
<
p>”It’s time we stopped acting like lawyers and started acting like patriots.”
<
p>”I do not believe it is torture. America does not torture, and we used aggressive, enhanced interrogation techniques.”
<
p>George Orwell would be proud on both counts!

…after all, I’m only 24 years old… very young, and quite impressionable…
<
p>But wasn’t John Adams BOTH a lawyer AND a patriot? Didn’t he defend the British soldiers in the Boston Massacre trial, AND attach his signature to the Declaration of Independence? Doesn’t it stand to reason then, that we can actually act like patriots, while still treating our laws and our Constitution with some amount of respect?
<
p>I can’t wait for the 20th to get here, so I can stop hearing this nonsense from Scott Brown as regularly as I do now.

I am worried.
<
p>Martha Coakley was not my candidate, but I certainly do not want Scott Brown elected.
<
p>I am worried b/c I do not see the Coakley campaign doing anything to inspire voters, illustrate her core principles and passions…
<
p>I am uninspired to help the campaign except out of fear of Brown winning.
<
p>And that seems like a really really huge liability for Coakley.
<
p>All it’s gonna take is one snow storm to keep tepid supporters home… And maybe Brown can pull it off with energized (and rabid teabaggy) GOTV.
<
p>WHere’s the fire, Martha? Where’s the passion? Where’s the grassroots campaign I heard so much about? There’s nothing going on in my suburbs…???
