US Senator-Elect Scott Brown (R) Wrenthan ran on the fact that he is a Lt. Col. in the National Guard.
However, when push comes to shove is appears that he would be a Sunshine Patriot by regulation.
According to US Senate regulations Senator Scott Brown would be exempt from being called up in an national emergency.
It was reported that US Senators cannot be drafted.
Figures these bastards would not put their life on the line when called. Guess they follow the General Patton philosophy that in war you want
“the other bastard to die.”
If Senator Scott Brown is a real patriot it would be his obligation to put down his Senate exemption and join his National Guard unit in the defense of this country. If he does not he would truly be a Sunshine Patriot.
Sorry, but serving in public office is at least as noble as combat duty when it comes to contributing to your country. I support the congressional exemption.
Benefits he will get [ double or triple dipping into the federal retirement pool ].

p>Anyone can be a “Pol”.
<
p>Scott Brown’s great responsibility is to fulfill his commitment as a member of the armed services.
<
p>We had a recent president of the United States, george w. bush who did not fulfill his military commitment because hid daddy pulled strings and who would have wanted that then drunk flying military aircraft then anyway.
<
p>So, if called Scott Brown must serve and set an example.
<
p>After all he is Scott Brown all American Boy in a pick-up truck !
<
p>My understanding was that as a JAG Officer he would not be called up to serve in the “traditional” sense of going to Iraq or Afghanistan. Also, if I am wrong about that point, do we know if his unit was called up?
<
p>That being said, I don’t like this “real patriot” language, no matter which side uses it; it doesn’t help a constructive dialogue.
“True Patriot” either. I was just thowing it back in the Right Wing’s collective face. They always have a different standard when it comes to their military service… read that dick cheney who said he had too many other things to do than be drafted or volunteer durning Vietnam and george bush who used his daddy’s influence to flaunt the rules and regs of the National Guard.
<
p>As to Scott Brown, he has been in Afghanistan already in his JAG capacity. It is my impression of the guy that he would actual volunteer and go in a crisis if his unit were to be called up while he was in the Senate.
