These are the reactions we should expect to hear from the Mainstream Corporate Media in response to Oregon voters’ decision to increase their State income tax on the wealthiest residents and increase taxes on Corporations and businesses.
That’s right.
In a special election yesterday featuring two ballot measures that were sponsored by Oregon business groups opposed to the Legislature’s approval last year of the two tax increases, voters comfortably affirmed both tax hikes as a way to maintain essential public services in a slow economy.
And they did this in the face of opposition from those new Mainstream Corporate Media darlings, the anti-tax-anti-government Teabaggers.
Will the politicians in Washington DC get the message?
It’s extraordinary to see voters unambiguously approve tax increase for the wealthy and Corporations… since the conservative media keep telling us Scott Brown’s victory proved Americans feel “angry,” “overtaxed,” and “fed-up with big government.”
Well, the people of Oregon clearly recognize that Corporations and the rich are undertaxed and do not pay their fair share compared to the wage-earning middle class.
The people of Oregon clearly value funding for schools, health care and public safety over maintaining or expanding Corporate Communism through tax cuts for the rich and subsidies to Big Business.
It is clear from this special election that American voters are more than prepared to achieve fairness and prosperity by taking matters into their own hands if politicians in Washington refuse to reform the failed Corporatist status quo.
Surely this special election –which was sponsored by business groups, backed by Teabaggers, conducted after Brown v. Coakley, and was exclusively an issues vote– is a warning sign to the conservative and Republican apologists in Washington…
Let’s see if it gets half the coverage and treatment as a benchmark of American voters as the MA Senate special election.
