Vote for Provincetown as the 2010 fan favorite “distinctive destination” on the National Historic Trust website.
So far P-Town has the lowest number of votes – behind even Bastrop, TX and The Crooked Road, VA. What’s the matter with Massachusetts? Michigan and Maine towns are way ahead of the pack.
P-Town is a beautiful place and shouldn’t be in last place. Show some state pride.
Here’s the description on the NTHP website:
Hugging a sheltered harbor and surrounded by the dunes and beaches of the Cape Cod National Seashore, this New England seaport town boasts a rich history, including the site of the 1620 signing of the Mayflower Compact. For over a century, notable artists and literary giants, including Tennessee Williams, Norman Mailer and Charles Hawthorne, have called “P-town” home, and Friday night gallery walks are still a village staple. Commercial Street bustles with pedestrians, who can rent bikes or hop on a pedi-cab to explore the farmers market, shops and museums – most located in adaptively-reused historic buildings. While it has long been a favorite destination for LGBT travelers, Provincetown has something for everyone – and knows how to make every visitor feel welcome.

If for no other reason than it being where the Pilgrims landed first and stayed for a month, it should be on the National Trust for Historic Preservation list.

p>I miss the cop who used to entertain tourists while directing the traffic on Commercial St in P-town.

Have you ever been to P-Town on Halloween? I was there once many years back. It was surreal – there were so many nuns running around I felt like I was back in elementary school. :>)

I did go to a party one year (prior to kids) as a pregnant nun though. Won first prize!
