Charlie Baker is having his Women for Baker Open House tonight and has graciously invited all of his female supporters to come, “tour our Boston Headquarters and enjoy a cocktail while learning more about the Baker Campaign.”
See the “Women for Baker Open House” invite.
Charlie’s message is simple: show up, look pretty, keep your mouth shut – you're just window dressing. Because in Charlie’s world, ladies don't do politics or policy, but we do enjoy stiff drinks and décor!
Oh, and of course we are qualified to collect signatures.
Wait! – If you're one of those rare women who'd rather talk policy than sip cocktails, just head over to the great discussion happening now at the Women for Baker Facebook page.
I wonder if the all cougars from the Harvard Pilgrim HR Department will be there sippin’ cosmos.

p>Seriously though. Look through the members of “Women for Baker” on Facebook. It’s like a GD Stepford Wives reunion.
I’ll take a good policy discussion over a cocktail any day. Although, don’t hold me to that!
Politics is always more interesting when slightly tipsy…
(For the humor impaired: this is satire.)
Why women are not allowed to demonstrate support for their candidate without getting this garbage is a mystery to me.
The phrase “learning about” as opposed to “having input” or “discussing” or “engaging with” does suggest a something at least mildly patriarchal.
I’ve been to my share of candidate events, usually early in the process, where the operative words seemed to be “learn about”. Maybe he’ll discuss issues of particular concern to women and maybe those women who attend will “learn about” how to get more involved in the campaign going forward.
Politics is all about distinctions without a difference such as this. Maybe if they write “having input” they’ll have a civic engagement website that they won’t know what to do with.
…especially when the commenter comes right out and says, “For the humor impaired this is satire.” Congratulations, you have proven yourself to be one of the humor-impaired. I think he was mocking what he perceives as the sexist mindset on the other side, not demonstrating his own sexism.
I was tempted to recommend just so I could push un-recommend.
An insult to activist women of all strips.
