Then it’s on to Chelmsford and the Java Room. It sounds like a neat place. After coffee with the Governor, there will be an organizing meeting and an overview of the campaign, similar to what will be covered in Worcester.
In Andover, there will be a similar event at the Senior Center.
Last stop is Danvers at the Peabody Institute Library. It’s worth the trip just to see the magnificent Georgian Revival building.
Whether you are already a supporter, or want to meet the Governor and learn more, please stop by at one of these events. No RSVP required. For more information or if you have questions, contact the Deval Patrick Campaign at 617-367-2010.
Please share widely!
I remember Deval Patrick as accessible. He seemed to really listen. That DID make a difference.
<
p>Those were mostly small events. There were not many “office holders” and no lobbyists. Just citizens who were honestly unsure for whom they would vote – or who “Deval Patrick” was.
<
p>These events were also not heavily orchestrated and choreographed – if there was any structure at all it was deft enough to be unseen.
<
p>Sort of like “if you know how to use makeup, no one should be aware you are wearing it.”
<
p>So if these four events are “orchestrated and choreographed’ – as is likely with a sitting governor, state police escorts, main stream media, other office holders [etc] – I hope the listening remains real.
<
p>To know what the electorate cares about does NOT take preaching, but does take listening.
<
p>And the part of the populace where my work life takes place cares about the reality that every family has someone out of work, or in danger of losing a job. Everyone knows someone who has lost their housing. Everyone knows someone struggling with addiction who could not find an open treatment bed. Bricklayers need to hear calls from their union halls that there are bricks to lay; same for carpenters, electricians, and roofers. Graduating students know that most of their friends cannot find jobs in the fields they studied, and are glad to have any jobs at all.
<
p>But I do not hear anyone telling me that they want to work in a casino – what I hear is that my friends, clients, children and those they are in college with – want to work and dod work that has a future.
<
p>Not bait and switch jobs like what Hyatt did to their workers and that Casinos all too often do. Not one mayor in a Casino town ultimately has been happy with the effect on “their” town.
<
p>So on these whistle stops – I hope there is time to really listen and concrete hope too about rebuilding our infrastructure including our public colleges and university campuses – and laying bricks in Lowell and Chicopee and Pittsfield.
Thanks David for front paging this.
<
p>I posted the Alliance meeting with Congressman Jim McGovern and
John from AbingtonParty Chairman John Walsh on BMG. Two people mentioned to me that knew about the meeting and decided to come ONLY because they read about it on BMG. There might have been some who didn’t mention this to me.<
p>Other people were there because of my phone calls, or becuase I publicized it in some of the e-mail lists that I have and I mentioned it on facebook. I got the word too late to put the guest list in the Dispatch.
<
p>Two is a big number when you are talking about getting people to an event. That “success” inspired me to be sure to post the Governor’s “tour” here.
<
p>Anecdotally, have you ever gone to an event because of something that you read on BMG? How do you find out about Democratic events?
<
p>PS Feel free to tell the Governor that “Kate at BMG sent you!” đŸ˜‰
<
p>Kate
Senior Center behind Town Hall per email that I have received.
And often determine which I attend, in addition to e-mails or calls from friends or following and participating in an organization.
<
p>I don’t think I remember to say this enough – but thanks for all you do.
<
p>Heh. Now I had better go and get some of my professional work done.
