Robert Rice announces he will not run for another term The District involved is the 2nd Worcester, including Gardner and Lancaster. Rep. Rice indicated the long commute and the time away from family due to both the commute and the commitments involved in being a legislator were part of his reasoning for not running for another term. To his credit, he is not leaving mid term, but simply will not run for re-election.
Mr. Rice is not retiring, however. He is a partner in a Gardner law firm. Prior to earning his law degree, he was a library director and a teacher and is also active in civic affairs in the Gardner area.
Robert Rice is a hard working legislator. He could be counted on to support access to justice, the rights of the disabled and good government generally. He will be missed. There will be one fewer librarian on Beacon Hill, as well as one fewer knowledgeable lawyer-legislator.
At this point, I have lost track of how many legislators are choosing not to run again. Frankly, it is time for a score card to track the races for these open seats. Any of the political science majors out there have time to do it?

can I ask you to do a bit of extra work? First, make this list into a separate post. Second, if you can, fill in the districts for each departing rep, and if you have the info, who the declared candidates are to replace them.
<
p>Then I’ll front-page it. This is important info, and a bit more context will really help all of us!
peter-porcupine says
Besides – how else will you find out who the Republicans are running? :~)
amberpaw says
Republican opponents should also be listed in part so that folk know where the hard-fought races will be and can allocate resources accordingly.
