Former Lowell Mayor and City Councilor Eileen Donoghue snagged three endorsements today from Lowell politicos in her quest to replace State Senator Steve Panagiotakos.
Her nascent campaign was endorsed by Lowell Mayor Jim Milinazzo, City Councilor (and former Mayor) Bill Martin, and City Councilor (and Vice Mayor) Kevin Broderick. (Note: Lowell is one of those cities where the Mayor is also a City Councilor.)
Donoghue, who nearly upset Niki Tsongas in a Democratic primary for Congress in 2007, is the only official candidate in the race to this point. With all of the district’s State Reps. taking a pass, she has quickly emerged as the favorite to replace Panagiotakos in the First Middlesex district.
Donoghue is planning a formal announcement next Tuesday, April 6, at 12:15 pm at Cobblestones in Lowell.

of those endorsements is any surprise. They were all on the same side in the whole Cox debate. LOL

p>And the three Lowell Reps took a pass cuz they’d lose their seats and knew she’d beat them, even with a lot of hard hard work…and they don’t love hard hard work. A couple of them especially.
<
p>And of course all the state Reps who stepped aside were on the OTHER side of the Cox debate…

p>Yes, I’m very much looking forward to this race.
