The term fiscal conservative has taken off like wild fire in our political worlds.
It’s used as term to define a candidate who will look after your tax dollars carefully.
Fiscal conservatives have been the first to cut social programs and essential state services, that help the middle class and working poor.
While they claim to be watching over your tax dollars, many have advocated strongly for tax breaks and subsidies for multi-national corporations. All on a promise to create a certain amount of jobs. Where do these fiscal conservatives get that money to GIVE to corporations? THE MIDDLE CLASS.
Some of these same corporations who are subsidized by working families across the Commonwealth, also do not pay a wage and benefit package to lift their own employees above the poverty line.
Now the working class is going to be obliged to support these employees through our social programs AFTER we gave their employer millions of dollars to set up shop in our state.
This is where fiscal responsibilty comes into the argument. I do not believe anybody believes the previous acts are fiscally responsible, but they have been used by the fiscal conservatives.
As a Commonwealth we must ensure a strong social safety net for working families. We must also be prudent in our business subsidies and tax breaks.
If a corporation has a history of paying their employees below the poverty line, they DO NOT receive a DIME from the taxpayers.
Those millions of dollars could be invested in communities to provide job training, tax breaks for working families, and small start up businesses. This is fiscal responsibility.
