Gubernatorial Approval Ratings
For most of last year Bev Perdue was one of the most unpopular Governors in the country, but that’s no longer the case. It’s not that the voters have warmed up to her- her 30% approval rating is still very poor- but the rest of the Governors have caught up to her in unpopularity.
There’s no doubt it’s a tough time to be a Governor. The average approval spread on the ones we’ve looked at lately is 37/45. Here are some notes on those numbers:
-The five least popular Governors we’ve tested are Bill Richardson, Deval Patrick, Jim Doyle, John Baldacci, and Jon Corzine while he was still in office. The only one of those folks running this year is Patrick and I have a really hard time seeing him getting reelected even with three serious candidates in the race.
Here’s the full data by approval rating:

Is PPP a credible group? If so, he’s in trouble.
Here’s hoping that Deval can turn this early cycle bad news around.

He’s probably lower.

I’d like to see the head-to-head to support that. I suspect only those of us who really pay attention even know who Grace Ross is.
johnny-reason says
You were the one that asked about Paterson. More negative polling #s and Deval is history as well. He’s ultimately going to drag the entire party into the toilet in November if he stays. Even John from Abington is not that stupid. Perhaps a spot in the Dept of Justice awaits.
christopher says
Seems a lot of your wing accuses all of us of never being concerned about Brown. I distinctly recall several posts in the runup to the election showing Brown ahead. Yes, my money was on Coakley, but I acknowledged the other could happen. You haven’t answered the Paterson question plus Deval’s barely started to very publicly campaign. Let’s not write hius obituary just yet.

p>Now there is an understatement. I have no idea why the poll did not include Paterson.

I don’t think the Governor will lose the primary. But I think he will get a serious message from Democrats who will toss Grace Ross a vote because they’re bloody sick of the nonsense. There’s a reason why Governor Patrick’s poll numbers are so low. Have you done a “head to head” comparison with Mike Dukakis’ poll numbers?
christopher says
…a head-to-head poll of Patrick v. Dukakis?
justice4all says
Duke’s (gubernatorial) poll numbers with Deval’s. It might tell the story.
sabutai says
Three-time governor Dukakis, who left to run for president after being re-elected with 70% of the vote? That Dukakis?
justice4all says
The one who lost after his first term to King.

Aside from fully funding your priorities, what would you like to see from this administration? What might have changed your mind, aside from more money?

p>Serious inquiry.
