I just wrote this letter to my Representative Markey, and wanted to share it with you guys here.
Dear Representative Markey,
I have two concerns to share with you.
First, the stimulus. In your newsletter tou are saying “In Massachusetts, this stimulus is estimated to have provided $4.3 billion and saved or created over 13,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs”. This translates into over $330K per job saved or created. As you might know, the median household income in Massachusetts is below $54K ( http://topics.nytimes.com/top/… ). Why are the stimulus jobs so expensive? It looks that if instead of creating jobs we simply paid the median income to the unemployed ones, we would create 6 times more jobs.
Second, the war in Afghanistan. As you should know, Congressman Kucinich introduced a privileged resolution H. Con Res 248, which would require the President to stop the war in Afghanistan and withdraw American troops immediately, It is cosponsored by 3 Republicans and 13 Democrats, including the Massachusetts Representative Michael Capuano. I urge you to support this resolution and to stop this war.
Thank you,
your constituent
