The legislature changes the deal on tax payers all the time. Why not for public employees as well? Perhaps because it’s the union bosses that swell their campaign coffers and union members who make up the ranks of their “volunteers.”

“Violating the clear intent of the voters on the income tax”?
<
p>wtf dude? The voters voted pretty overwhelmingly to keep the income tax. You need to get your facts straight before you embarrass yourself in public.
kbusch says
I think Mr. Marston is not referring to the most recent referendum but a past ballot initiative that won but was not implemented by the legislature. That past initiative would have rolled back the income tax even further than it has been rolled back.
<
p>IMHO, the result of doing so would have been calamitous; I’m relieved that it did not happen.
<
p>One could argue, as Reilly did in losing the Democratic primary campaign for governor in 2006, that that was the will of the people.
patricklong says
But my response to that would be to ask why the will of the people a long time ago matters more than the will of the people 2 years ago. People can change their minds. New generations have new priorities. The most recent tax rollback proposal failed, so whatever the intent of the voters used to be, keeping the income tax is now the intent of the voters, and that is more entitled to respect than old elections.
<
p>Just like Mr. Marston’s successful election in 2010, if it were to happen, would count for a little bit more in deciding who becomes the State Rep than Ms. Walz’s successful election in 2008. More recent ones count for more. That’s how elections work.

I enjoyed the earlier cross-aisle debates we’ve had with you and I think they are just the sort of thing BMG could use more of because you debate well and strive to be thoughtful. Nonetheless, I’m reluctant to play clips of videos and respond to them. (For example, I cannot easily quote what you’ve said.) I say this and I’ve been the one most likely to respond to you!
<
p>So you might get more traffic if you included your script with your video.

you say “the Democrats” only “change the deal” for taxpayers. Did you miss the fact that Governor Patrick recently won unprecedented concessions from public employee unions?
<
p>Some of your other videos have been interesting. This one is, well, not, for two reasons. (1) You omit the fact noted above that Deval has done exactly what you say should be done but falsely claim (or at least imply) hasn’t; and (2) you ignore the fact, mentioned elsewhere on this thread, that there are contracts in place. So unless you’re planning to repeal contract law, it’s a whole lot more complicated than you’re implying.
