Saw the tweets too late to listen to the Gov go on Howie Carr this afternoon. And I kind of feel like I shouldn't reward Howie by listening to his addlebrained wheezings, regardless of who's on the show. Still, we urged Gov to board the various right-wing motherships, and he did it.
Anyone catch it? The show, that is; not rabies from coming in contact. Any impressions?

The visit was short and both behaved reasonably well. I got the impression that Deval would have preferred a trip to the dentist. I got the impression that Howie loved it.

Probably not much fun for the Gov, though it’s a really good idea. As for Howie, it boosts his ratings, which is what he cares most about.

Just asking. I would prefer not to boost Howie Carr’s ratings for ANYONE. Until he wears a Moonbat T-shirt, that is.

Deval said he was working on it. My guess is they never speak again. Bring on Michael Graham

I remember hearing the word moonbat. Such a surprise!

…that you weren’t listening very closely. Howie gave the Governor two t-shirts (e.g “Galluccio .08” and the Governor gave him a bat engraved with Howie “Moonbat” Carr. It was the first minute of the show.

Inquiring minds want to know. He was hand delivered a T-shirt with a glow-in-the dark moon and a bat silhouette once upon a time by a former legislator. That was part of the Moonbat Project with donated over $2000 to the Arlington Education Foundation, by the way.

I have a job that requires at least some of my attention. Frankly I changed the station from EEI just in time to hear some of the wonderful dialog between HLC and DP.

Howie was squealing in delight over this. Access is what those people love – acknowledgment of their status as gatekeepers. It’s the same with most of the rest of the press, as well, especially The Village. (Don’t get me started, for instance, about the editor of the Lowell Sun. Arg.)
<
p>I suppose it’s human – to want to be one of the Kewl Kids, the hip people whom powerful people feel they need to go through in order to retain their power.
<
p>However, it’s a rather base human emotion with very dark undertones, and easily abused as well (a la the Sun editor). I admit to getting that kind of “oooh!” feeling as a blogger who gets to talk occasionally to powerful people in my coverage of politics. As soon as I start feeling it, however, I tamp it down and make fun of it, so that I will, I hope, never get too big for my britches. What I do, anyone who has the inclination to do can do, and it’s nothing special, and I better damn remember that. I want people to respect me for what I write and post, not who I talk to or have access to.
<
p>As someone who was never part of the Kewl Kids in jr high, however, and felt pretty crappy about it even while realizing how silly they all were, that can be tough at times. đŸ™‚

Here’s the audio. There’s an auto-generated transcript as well, but it’s pretty bad.

Meant in the derogatory category. I did however catch the news of Guam sliding into the ocean and the commander’s reaction to that question. Also picked up this.

I thought the Gov. did an excellent job. Howie threw all his usual stuff at him and the Governor answered them well.
<
p>Howie: Where is my property tax relief?
<
p>Gov: I’m trying. I did Municipal Relief, GIC for municipal workers and unsuccessful attempt to have casinos with revenue dedicated to local aid.
<
p>Howie: Why did you try to raise my gas tax?
<
p>Gov: I don’t want to raise your gas tax but we have to pay for roads, bridges and public transit.
<
p>Howie: Do you think it is fair to raise the sales tax?
<
p>Gov: I didn’t want the sales tax, I wanted the gas tax instead because it would have to be spent only on transportation but the legislature wanted a sales tax. I made a deal with them that we would do reforms in conjunction with the sales tax.
<
p>Howie: Do you really think we reformed the pension system?
<
p>Gov: Yes we did (then he gave specifics.)
<
p>Howie: Why aren’t we laying people off?
<
p>Gov: we are. We have laid off 2200 employees and had furloughs and hiring freezes.
<
p>Howie: How many people have you added to the payroll?
<
p>Gov: We have reduced the number of state employees.
<
p>These are kind of the highlights but I did think the Gov. took Howie’s best shots and answered everything clearly and convincingly. People may not uy it but that is not because he wasn’t selling it.
