Update:
Brown spokeswoman Gail Gitcho says he did not intend to snub anyone. Gitcho said that Brown will be in town on Saturday to attend and speak at the MA GOP Convention. She noted that Tea Party groups will be at the convention. But what was telling is what Gitcho didn’t say. Gitcho made no comment about the Tea Party Rally in D.C. on Thursday. Let’s see where this goes and if Brown feels enough pressure to make an appearance.
The Herald is reporting that Scott Brown has declined an invitation to stand together with fellow Republican Sarah Palin at the Tea Party rally in Boston. Instead he will be hiding working in D.C.
Scott Brown, whose stunning victory in January was fueled in part by Tea Party anger, has snubbed the fiery grassroots group and declined its invitation to join Sarah Palin Wednesday at a massive rally on Boston Common, the Herald has learned.
Brown’s decision to skip the first big rally in Boston by the group whose members are credited with helping him win election has some experts saying he’s tossed the Tea Party overboard, as he prepares for re-election in 2012.
The Greater Lowell Tea Party had also invited Scott Brown to attend their event the following day, but alas he has, hmmmm, errrr, plans that day too.
Barbara Klain, head of the Greater Lowell Tea Party, said Brown also turned down an invite to speak at their April 15 rally in downtown Lowell.
It will be interesting to see the reaction to Brown turning his back on the group that helped fund and fought for his election to the Senate.

It’s basically Palin, a few radio guys, then of all people Victoria Jackson and some comedian. TPExpress. That’s pretty weak.

I suspect this is more about not wanting to inadvertently reflect any of his glory on Palin, who right now looks like the main rival to Brown’s friend and mentor Mitt Romney for the GOP 2012 nomination.

It may be that Senator Brown has priorities that preclude his attendance at the Tea Party event. There is a meeting of the Senate Armed Forces Committee to discuss the Islamic Republic of Iran. http://armed-services.senate.g…
<
p>Personally, I would prefer either of my Senators to attend important Committee meetings than a rally.
johnk says
Oh, that’s why he’s in DC?
<
p>Thanks, nice one. I need a laugh.

Figured I’d randomly pick a Full Committee meeting and check. No Scott Brown?

There are at LEAST three seperate TEA Party organizations.
<
p>TEA Party Patriots – a 501 (c) 3 org., Educational. Most rank and file people are affiliated with this.
<
p>TEA Party Nation – a for profit group controlled by a Tennessee lawyer. Mark Whozis and WorldNet Daily are affiliated with this, as are several other more – fundamentalist? – groups.
<
p>TEA Party Express – an entertainment conglomerate, with some RNC funding.

The crowd was saturated with these flags. In the lead up interviews, this flag was pushed into “the shot” as often as possible by members of the crowd.
