I don’t throw around the word “racist” very often–it’s like like calling someone a Nazi, it often means you have little substance left in your argument, and you have to settle for the emotional pull.
But Lastorseman clearly has shown their stripe in this post and let’s see if the RMGers have the sensibility of doing the right thing.

…advertise on a site in which readers will not condemn this type of view point
johnny-reason says
Your attempt to paint with a broad brush is pretty disgusting.
huh says
I marked your post “worthless” since it’s a generic attack on a very specific point. No “broad brush” was involved. In fact, the RMG editors agreed and deleted the post in question.

What was it?

That to me would be a clear indication of how the RMG editors feel. However, if their Lasthorseman is the same guy as our Lasthorseman, then I usually just ignore him. If they had chosen to do the same I for one would not take their silence as agreement.
kbusch says
A standard troll attack on this site is to require that Blue Mass Group condemn this or that comment by this or that moonbat. I’m not sure I’d want to fish RMG for similar requirements — especially given Lasthorseman’s loose connection with empirical reality.
<
p>What I find more disturbing is the tendency on the right to make reckless accusations. For example, one was able to read Robert Eno asserting that BMG itself was planning to disrupt the Tea Party protesters. Not only was this based on the flimsiest of evidence, but, when it turned out not to be the case, there was no “Oops. Wrong about that.”
<
p>Monitoring one’s own assertions seems more important to me than monitoring others’ assertions.

…this assault captured on this video. Lasthorseman blamed race mixing for the problem and defended the attacker because he was unemployed, going through a divorce and frustrated with the police state.
<
p>Yes, Lasthorseman’s rants are best to be ignored. But when they write something this hideous, people have got to stand up and just say NO.
<
p>It doesn’t surprise me that the RMG editors took the post down (but only after my diary) because they have enough common decency. But frankly they took the weasel way out. They should have maintained Lasthorseman “free speech” and countered it with their own free speech condemning it as hateful, racist and not part of the values they share. By deleting it, the RMG editors just sweep it under the rug and pretended it did not happen. They basically punted and should how spineless they were.
centralmassdad says
If they had left it up, with their BMG-approved condemnation, and there were follow-up commentary, there would be a diary here denouncing their failure to delete it, and pointing out how these conservatives are associated with racism, blah, blah, blah.
<
p>It is ironic, I think, that now the place where once has to come to see whatever the underlying subject matter was is… BMG.
liveandletlive says
I didn’t read his post.
somervilletom says
I quit reading comments from Lasthorseman a long time ago. He clearly needs help that he can’t get from any blog, and any attention he receives only strengthens whatever personal demons pursue him.
<
p>The web is full of extremist sites that fill their pages with all sorts of garbage — often in an occasionally-successful effort to increase traffic. Anyone who attempts to stay informed on current climate change science is all too aware of this phenomena. As far as I can see, the site in question fits squarely into this category. I see no need to expend any energy whatsoever on it.
demolisher says
from both RMG and BMG, and you know I really wouldn’t say that about any other poster that I can think of. Its just 100% paranoid conspiracy theory, all the time. I think I’ve said as much in both places, although my anti LH rants have actually gotten deleted from BMG đŸ™‚
<
p>I’m slightly offended that you would associate him with RMG when he has been posting here for far longer.
huh says
lasthorseman has posted equally offensive rants on here, including celebrating the murder of a census worker. Complaints about him tend to be deleted. In fact, the editors here find him “amusing.”
<
p>In this case, the RMG editors showed a lot more class.
<
p>It’s just another example of why the BMG Rules of The Road are meaningless.
somervilletom says
I agree that his rants are offensive.
<
p>Any attempt to “ban” such individuals tends to only worsen the problem. The experience of many wiki communities with “Robert Abitbol” exemplifies the phenomena. Current technology offers no effective way to identify a specific individual (and that is probably better for all of us).
<
p>The attempt to ban an individual most often results in setting off a hugely distracting sideshow focused on that individual — thereby providing precisely the reward that most often motivates such offensive behavior. Each such war causes far more damage to its community than the offensive commentary that provoked it.
<
p>I think the general approach taken here is about the best that’s possible with current technology: remove offensive comments, privately chastise repeat offenders, and draw as little attention to the pathology as possible.
kbusch says
I’d guess that wiki communities attract savvier trolls.
lasthorseman says
OK I an the same person on RMG and BMG.
I may have made a statement that was interpreted as racist.
Free speech disclaimers aside both parties want to condemn something which brings up my point about obsession with crime and punishment, one of the 14 characteristics of fascism. The fact is the current government policy and social norm is that minorities are protected. In this “free speech” country free doesn’t really mean free does it. We as a species have not changed in 2000 years and I don’t think we ever will. Oh yeah and God said Thou shalt not kill. How did that work out for ya. All we did with our marvel of electronic communications is invent new and promising ways to demonize each other. I am guilty of not conforming to the worldview which you project upon me. Ya that won’t hold up in a “court” of “law” now would it. What do I really want to do? Document this declining empire and all of the amazing ways we are going to do it.
