Last year, event sponsor and local right-wing media outlet WTAG estimated attendance in Lincoln Square at 1500. With the virulent anger of conservative activists and a half-dozen teabagger candidates for Congress organizing their campaigns around this event, turnout may exceed last year’s.
At last year’s rally, the radical anti-government rhetoric of the teabaggers was on full display. Signs referencing the “Tree of Liberty” (which Thomas Jefferson said needed to be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots) were common. Even State Representative George Peterson from Grafton called for a “forceable overthrow” of the government.
In order to restore balance to our political discourse, we must respond to this craziness with peaceful action of our own. Stand up to Stupid invites you to join us on Thursday, April 15th at Lincoln Sq. in scenic downtown Worcester. Be creative, be funny, be civil. In the weeks to come, Stand up to Stupid will be asking you for your ideas to strengthen our response.
We’ll be hosting a sign making party on Monday, April 12 at the FYC at 420 Pleasant street from 4-7. Supplies will be available at the FYC all that week for you to prepare an original sign, though we’ll have extras available.
If you have any questions, shoot us an email at standuptostupid@gmail.com
See you on the 15th!
